Meet our team of DJs

We make experiences from events, memories to talk about tomorrow

Matthew Hautamaki (ionmatika) • Founder

Weddings & DJ events starting in 2014. This company was a dream that surprised me. Things happen for a reason and I get to bring couples good entertainment. It's fun to see people's eyes light up when I play songs that they wanted to hear but didn't know they needed. Reading a room is like breathing for me. I started my music journey in LA. Moving back to Grand Rapids because of family was the greatest thing I ever could have done for myself. This team is strong because I train them correctly. My experience in Hollywood pushed me to new levels. I have my hand on everything in this company. When you care, It really shows. That's why we offer affordable and pricy weddings. We like to help our couples go home having the time of their life.

Bill Davis (Dahllabillz) • Operations/Lead DJ

I've been a DJ for as long as I can remember. From house parties to events like bars and you name it! I like to mix in songs that keep the dancefloor moving. I listen to the crowd when needed and I can mix in songs on the fly. I've helped NewSwivel grow through the years with events everywhere in Michigan. I've probably seen every venue at this point and I love to get people dancing. I work the mic to keep people entertained but it's always classy. I can mix anything. Just show me the playlist and I'll have a show for you.

Johnny Morabito (JED) • DJ/MC

I’ve been a live performer since I got my guitar at age ten. Nothing makes me happier than to share my energy with others. Whether it’s a festival stage, club, wedding, or house party, the crowd is my lifeblood. Show me what music you love, and I’ll put a spell on you and make you dance until your feet hurt!

David Peters • DJ/MC

Music has been part of my life since I was eleven. I’ve played drums, guitar,
and bass, and performed in choirs, orchestras, jazz bands, and rock
bands. My taste is just as varied—from the oldies my parents played on
the radio and seeing B.B. King with my dad, to attending punk rock and
hip-hop shows as a teenager, to bluegrass festivals and club scenes in
my twenties.

I started wedding DJing on a whim five years ago, and
it quickly became something I genuinely loved. Reading the room and
responding to the crowd is my favorite part of every event. My MC style
is calm, upbeat, and minimal, and I always want couples to feel
comfortable knowing their celebration is in good hands. My goal is
simple: create a real celebration where everyone can relax, connect, and
have a great time.

David Alvarez (DJ AYE) • DJ/MC

I grew up on everything from Elvis and Neil Diamond to N.W.A. and Kid ’n Play, which shaped my open-format style early on. My journey into DJing started at 1140 WKWM, where I interned under my cousin and mentor, learning the craft hands-on in both DJ services and urban radio. From there, I built my skills by studying mixtapes, mix shows, and putting in hours of practice.

I’ve had the opportunity to work with stations in Texas, Chicago, and Grand Rapids, and over time I’ve developed the ability to mix across genres and read any crowd. Whether it’s weddings, quinceañeras, or private events, I treat every set like a new challenge. For me, the goal is simple—keep the energy high and make sure everyone leaves the dance floor with a great memory.

Michael “Mike” Delarosa (Dj - Mike D) • DJ/MC

Music has been at the center of Mike’s life for as long as he can remember. He began performing live in the late 1990s as the lead vocalist of the Michigan band G Lethal 9, where he developed a passion for entertaining crowds and creating unforgettable experiences.

Today, Mike is an experienced open-format DJ and MC who brings energy, professionalism, and personality to every event. Whether it’s a wedding reception, corporate event, private party, school dance, or nightclub, he takes pride in reading the crowd, keeping the dance floor full, and making every celebration unique. Fluent in both English and Spanish, Mike also enjoys hosting bilingual and multicultural events.

Outside of music, Mike is an accomplished artist whose curated paintings have been featured in galleries, and he is a U.S. Coast Guard Licensed Captain who enjoys spending time on Michigan’s Great Lakes.

For Mike, DJing is more than playing music—it’s about creating memories that last a lifetime. His goal is simple: make every event fun, seamless, and unforgettable

John Rahe • DJ/MC

Music has always been a huge part of my life. Whether I'm driving, working out, or just relaxing, I almost always have my headphones on. I’m a big believer in creativity and self-expression, which is also why photography has become such a big passion of mine. I love keeping the energy at its peak wherever I’m at, so I can’t wait to bring that into my DJing too!

How We Start The Party

The first hour is where we shine. Discover our curated playlists,
hand-picked favorites that we blend seamlessly together.

What is your travel policy?

We service all of Michigan but focus in on Western Michigan. That said we do have a fee for travel beyond 100 miles. We do this to make sure our DJs can sleep safely for the night. It's not easy to travel with equipment but we try to take the stress out of this by booking rooms. Our price for travel outside of 100 miles changes based on expense but is already pre calculated in our packages.

Do you take requests?

We take requests on the fly and during dinner. Our hope is to have most of the music ready before your show but certainly there is always inspiration from what you have given us. We can typically get those requests in right away or within the next 2-3 songs. It's our discretion if we think the song doesn't fit the vibe or the do not play list.

What is your deposit?

Our deposit for any project is 40% from there we require 30% in the middle of our booking sign and date. The last payment is 30% a month before the project. Everything is automated payments that are presented to you upon signing the agreement.

Do you actually mix the music?

All of our DJs can mix music into the next song. We have taught them to be better on the microphone and great with mixing from track to track. Each DJ has their own style of performing and brings different things to the table. We try to make it fun!

What is your refund policy?

Our goal is for every customer to be totally satisfied with their purchase. Unfortunately we are realistic and mistakes do happen.

Cancelations: We currently offer no refund for canceled events. We request that packages be paid in full upon cancelation. This is because we reserved that time for your event, our DJs and our equipment.

No Show: We do offer full refund for no show. We've never missed an event and we're not about to start doing that any time soon. We will be there rain or shine to set up and run your event. If you've put in a deposit and paid... you can expect us to be there.

Errors: What constitutes as an error? Songs not being played as the correct songs in our paperwork on file. If we play music that isn't specifically listed in your paperwork. You would be entitled to $100 an error. We aim to get music correct the first time but mistakes happen.

How do you train your DJs?

We have various playlists that we have created from the years in business. These help with training most DJs. From there we grill them in their mixing and mic technique. It's really a fun experience of finding their own voice. We equip all our DJs with similar or same gear and explain all the challenges with using those items.

How do you do grand introductions?

Typically for grand introductions we are using our loud announcing voice. Each DJ does it a little different but we all have the same idea of how they should be done. Usually we only use first names but are loud and hold out the last word when it's important. We do also cut the music so you can hear us while we make announcements. We try to make it fun for everyone because we understand how much fun it can be! We're there to show your party how to have a good time.

How do you convince people to get on the dance floor?

Hopefully we're on the same page and your party wants to dance. However we understand that sometimes it can take time to get things started. We're there to get it started in various ways. This is sorta the secret sauce of NewSwivel but we try to use games and incentives to get people to break the ice. Flow of the night is the best way to get people on the dance floor. We are reading the room and making sure that people are vibing to the music. Every 30 min we try to change it up with various different genre of music. Each night is different but the night typically goes in waves of popularity on the dance floor. We know what works in this area and we play what people want!

Our ceremony/reception doesn't have power, how will you power your gear?

Our ceremony is all battery powered and wireless. If your reception has any power problems or it's questionable we do have power banks that can keep the night going all night. Please inform us ahead of time so that we can plan accordingly.
