Our Story as an entertainment company
NewSwivel was built from a passion for music, entertainment, and creating unforgettable experiences. What started as one DJ's vision has grown into a full-service event company dedicated to making weddings, parties, and special events feel effortless, exciting, and uniquely personal. Founder Matthew Hautamaki began performing at events in 2014 after developing his love for music in Los Angeles before returning home to Grand Rapids, where family and community inspired him to build something lasting. Along the way, he discovered that a great event isn't just about playing songs—it's about reading the room, understanding people, and creating moments that guests remember for years. That philosophy became the foundation of NewSwivel. Today, our team of experienced DJs, photographers, videographers, and event professionals brings that same energy to every celebration across Michigan. We believe preparation, professionalism, and genuine passion are what separate a good event from an incredible one. Every member of our team is carefully trained to deliver seamless entertainment, polished presentations, and personalized service that reflects each client's vision. In the Grand Rapids area, we've entertained at favorites including The Cheney Place, Leona Road, The Foyer, St. Cecilia Music Center, Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park, Venue3Two, The Ballroom at McKay, The Lit, The High Five GR, and The Revel Center. Along the Lakeshore, we've celebrated at breathtaking venues such as The Felt Estate, Ivy House Weddings & Events, Glass House Creative Community, Camp Blodgett, Port 393, Boatwerks Waterfront Venue, Castle Park, and Haworth Hotel. In Southwest Michigan, we've provided entertainment at Blue Heron Barn, Hidden Vineyard Wedding Barn, Blue Dress Barn, Stonegate Manor, The Hayloft Farm, MillCreek Wilde, The Morris Estate, and Venue at 501. Along the Lake Michigan shoreline, we've had the opportunity to perform at Etre Farms, Shadowland on Silver Beach, The Inn at Harbor Shores, Goldberry Woods, Journeyman Distillery, The Post Family Farm, and Fallasburg Park. Every venue offers its own unique atmosphere, challenges, and opportunities, and our experience allows us to adapt seamlessly to each location while working closely with venue staff and fellow vendors.
